Method
1. First I got some wax pellets and put them into a wax heater to make the wax turn into a liquid
2. Next I got some cartridge paper and cotton, then I experimented using the wax on them with the Tjanting wax applicator.
3. Then I got some cotton and using a drawing I created then enlarged, I put it underneath to use as a guide when I applied the wax.
4. Then using a Tjanting wax applicator I started to use it like a drawing tool.
5. Once I had finished I realised that the cartridge paper was stuck to the cotton so I peeled it off and realised the the image had transferred onto the cotton.
6. Then I put a wash of black water colour over the top. Because of the wax the water colour does not go where the wax is applied.
7. Once the water colour had dried, the cotton was then placed in between two pieces of newspaper then I used an iron to get out the wax bit by bit. The newspaper also soaked up the wax.
Health and safety
- Make sure to be careful with the hot wax other wise it will burn.
Wax Transfer
Whilst making the wax resist I found out that the image I was working from had transferred onto the the wax. So I wanted to take it further by doing it on purpose.
Equipment and Material
The equipment is practically the same the only thing different is that I didn't use Water Colour Paints and Paint Brushes, Newspaper but I did use cartridge paper, Printer paper, 2x cotton and then everything else was the same.
Method
1. First I photo copied the same image onto the cartridge paper and printer paper I put the cotton on top then applied the wax all over the surface
2. I left the wax to dry then I peeled it off and found that the cartridge paper one worked better as more of the image transferred on to the wax whereas the it did not work as much. Also the image has become see through.
