Close-up Photography

Close-up is a medium of photography that captures the detail of a subject like hairs and imperfections. People can get confused between close up and macro and say their on in the same thing, but macro is a life size representation of an object like you have a 50 mm lens and then add a 50 mm extension tube so it is 1:1. Where as close-up is either larger or smaller than life size and depending on what lens and extension tube is used like a 50 mm lens and 100 mm extension tube.

For this image I used low key lighting with one light with barn doors. I put the object on a table then using a 50 mm lens + 32 mm extension tube. For the camera settings I used ISO 100 and a shutter speed  1/60 and the aperture is f/11 but I had to use f/16.3 as the light takes longer to travel as extension tubes have been used.

For this image I used high key lighting using a white background, 2 lights and soft boxes. a light table was used to make the background become brighter as a light is placed behind the table. I used the same settings but the f number on the light went up to f/22.2 as there is more light so it has to compensate.
